Red Velvet Marble Cupcakes ๐ฐ
These Red Velvet Marble Cupcakes combine a light vanilla batter with rich red velvet swirl and are topped with a beautifully marbled red velvet cream cheese frosting. Perfect for any celebration!
Ingredients:
For the Cupcakes:
1/2 cup milk, room temperature ๐ฅ
1/2 cup sour cream, room temperature ๐ถ
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour ๐พ
2 tablespoons cornstarch ๐ฝ
1/2 teaspoon baking powder ๐ง
1/4 teaspoon baking soda ๐ฅ
1/2 teaspoon Kosher or sea salt ๐ง
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature ๐ง
1 cup granulated sugar ๐ฌ
2 large eggs, room temperature ๐ฅ๐ฅ
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract ๐จ
For the Red Velvet Portion:
1 tablespoon cocoa powder ๐ซ
1 tablespoon milk ๐ฅ
1-2 teaspoons liquid red food coloring (or gel + water) ๐ด
For the Marbled Red Velvet Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz cream cheese, softened ๐ง
1 cup unsalted butter, softened ๐ง
1 lb confectionerโs sugar ๐ฌ
Pinch of Kosher or sea salt ๐ง
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract ๐จ
1 tablespoon natural unsweetened cocoa powder ๐ซ
1-2 teaspoons liquid red food coloring ๐ด
Instructions:
1๏ธโฃ Make the Cupcakes:
Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (180ยฐC) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
In a liquid measuring cup, whisk together the milk and sour cream. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add sugar and continue beating. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
Gradually mix in half of the dry ingredients, followed by half of the milk mixture. Repeat with the remaining ingredients until just combined.
2๏ธโฃ Make the Red Velvet Portion:
In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of the batter with cocoa, milk, and red food coloring. Stir to combine.
3๏ธโฃ Assemble the Cupcakes:
Add 1 tablespoon of plain batter to each liner, followed by 1 tablespoon of red velvet batter, then another tablespoon of plain batter. Fill liners 2/3 full.
