Watch a Mother Giraffe Protect Her Baby From a Group of Hyenas Lurking Nearby
Are Giraffes Strong?
Giraffes can run up to 30 miles per hour.
When we think about a pack of hyenas and the king of the jungle, we can’t help but wonder, just how strong are giraffes? And the answer is that they are very strong! Not only are they strong because of their size, but they also have one vicious kick.
Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) of the genus Giraffa are the tallest land animals alive. They weigh anywhere from 1,200-4,200 pounds and can reach amazing heights of 20 feet tall.
A giraffe kick has a powerful force of 2,000 PSI (pound per square inch.) This amount of force has been known to kill a lion.
These predators skulking nearby knew that the combination of the size and kick of this giraffe was enough to make them think twice about attacking. So, they merely stood back and didn’t provoke this mama.
